Sept 2011
Dear ACF Epicurean Club
Welcome back, I hope everyone had a wonderful summer!
The June Meeting of the E.C.B. was held at Cape Ann Brewing Company
in Gloucester. It was sponsored by owner Jeremy Goldberg and
Chef Dan Sherburne. We had a fantastic casual summer night on
the harbor with great food and brew. We were taken for a tour
through the brewery and were shown the process of how a microbrewery
develops their own signature flavors. I would like to again thank
owner Jeremy Goldberg and his wonderful staff for their hospitality.
It was a fantastic night.
Our next monthly meeting will be on September 19th at Atria Senior
Living at Marina Place, 4 Seaport Drive in Quincy. Our own secretary
Jim Connolly will host it. Please join us for a fun night. Make
your reservations early by phone (781) 231-1115 or on the website
www.acfecb.com. At the meeting we will start our new Board election
process for the election to be held in December. Members can
be nominated from the floor at both the Sept. and Oct. meetings.
The November meeting nominees will need 10 signatures from active
current members to run for a board seat.
I have to pass on the great news from the ACF National Convention
in Dallas, Texas. The Epicurean Club of Boston was very well
represented and did very well. Our Vice President Doug Patten
was inducted into the American Academy of Chefs. His wonderful
mother Dorothy and his two sons, Doug jr. and Evan joined Doug
for his Induction at the Academy Dinner. Congratulations Doug!
On that same night, our own Anthony Graffeo was inducted into
the ACF Culinary Hall of Fame. What a well-deserved honor. Congratulations
Tony! We are all so proud of you. No one deserves it more.
We also had our own board member, J. Desmond Keefe, who won the
Northeast Regional ACF Chef Educator Award in Columbus, Ohio,
as one of the four finalists at the convention. He didn't win
the national award but made us all proud with his representation
of our club and the Northeast Region. I know he had a ball with
his daughters Naomi and Abi that were present during the whole
process and had a fantastic time. Great job Desmond!
I also have to congratulate Chef James Connolly and Chef Brain
Ray who competed at the convention in the National Championship
in the "Cooking for Life" Health care Competition.
Both Jim and Brian received a Bronze Medal in the Competition.
What a privilege to have two members from our own chapter compete.
No other chapter was so well represented. The Epicurean Club
of Boston was out front again at our National Convention.
Hope to see you all at Atria Senior Life, Marina Place!
Warmest Regards,
Jim DiMarzio CEC
