Presidents Message-November 2002 Our October meeting was held on Tuesday evening at The Wellesley Country Club. Vice President Jeremy DiStefano, CSC ran the October meeting for me as I was at my wife Sharon's benefit concert for the Faulkner Hospital. ECB members and guests had the pleasure of dining on a magnificent 5-course dinner, consisting of a Consommé Brunoise with a Pastry Dome. Served next was Potato Wrapped Black Bass, Vidalia Onion Relish and Beurre Rouge. The third course consisted of Roasted Beets and Harvest Greens, Vermont Chevre with Pumpkin Seed Vinaigrette, followed by the main course of Chicago Veal Steak with Sauce Perigueux, Bacon Wrapped Yukon Gold Potato and Caramelized Butternut Squash. The finale to this outstanding dinner was a Chocolate Marquise Bavarois. I would like to thank our hosts for the evening, Host C hef and member Executive Chef Craig Cobb, Sous Chef, Matheus Coelho, Banquet Chef Michael Taylor, and The Wellesley Country Club and Staff. A very special thank you to General Manager Martin Ryan and Beverage Director Herbert Medrano for donating the funds for the evening's meeting to the ECB to be used for our scholarship fund. Their very generous donation will help ensure that New England area young culinarians will be able to continue their education. Vice President Jeremy DiStefano swore in two new members. I would also like to thank Jeremy for standing in for me. This newsletter will be going to print before ECB President's Ball, so I will announce the award recipients in our next newsletter. I would like to wish all the nominees the best of luck, and I hope to see many of you at the Ball to show support for your fellow members. Meetings Chair Denise Graffeo, CEC, AAC has been hard at work putting together our upcoming meetings. Please read the enclosed calendar, as there have been some changes. You will see that there will be no charge for our next 2 meetings, so please feel free to bring along a fellow colleague as your guest and introduce them to our organization. We are also working with the ACF to obtain education hours for most of our meetings. Just a reminder that you still must make a reservation for a free meeting, as a head count is still required for our hosts. In January "The Epicurean Review" newsletter will look a bit different, as we will be listing all of our associate members in every newsletter. This listing will include updated contact information. ECB members will now have at their fingertips a current list of all the associate members whose support enables the club run our meetings, fundraisers, scholarships and member grants, just to name a few of the ways they help us. It is the hope of the Board of Directors that this list will allow you to see who is supporting the Club so that you may in turn show your support for them. Also coming in January - the ECB is expanding its website to allow for the posting of our newsletter online. For those of you who are not familiar with our website, the address is www.theepicureanclubofboston.com. During the last 18 months, the site has had over 14,000 visitors. If you would like to read your newsletter online, just fill out the form you will find in this newsletter. In closing I wish you and your family a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Warmest regards, Rico DiFronzo, CEC |
